Webber men's lacrosse program went 11-6 last season following a first-round exit in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. “And I just knew, that when I step foot on campus, that it was the school for me.” "They just seemed like such welcoming, and loving people,” Shepard said. “Webber was the only school that I went to visit and I fell in love with the campus, and the coaches and the admissions staff," Shepard said. The offer from Webber was too good to pass up. While Shepard had six other colleges offer him a scholarship, those institutions were out-of-state. Didn’t know how, or where, or what sport. I prayed to be able to go to school and play a college sport. My dad really helped me get to that (point). "I feel like I’ve been put in a very great position. The spring sports season rolled around and his only option was to play lacrosse, a sport Shepard had never even thought about before. But he buckled down, studied the sport, and had a stellar season. So much so, that by year’s end he had the opportunity to sign a scholarship to play at Webber International. "And I was like, ’I turned myself into this athlete. “I was hurt and I worked hard all summer, getting in shape, working on my body," he said. ![]() He tried out again his senior year and was cut again. So naturally, as a sophomore, he tried out for the Lake Wales High team. ![]() As he entered high school the Lake Wales native was regularly dunking. And why not? Shepard had been practicing the sport since the age of 7.Ī growth spurt put him at 6-foot-1 and made the dream seem more attainable. ![]() However, he thought that scholarship offer would come in basketball. Reggie Shepard always had the goal of achieving a college scholarship.
